A typical day for most people is to wake up, rub your eyes, piddle around your room or the house, then get dressed and begin your day. But what is a typical day for someone who lives on a farm, or has a farm job?
A normal day would begin with waking up, getting dressed, then heading for the outdoors. Why are we so quick to get up and get started? Well, if you live on a farm or work a farm job you already know: there’s a lot to be done and not much time to do it.
Some of you may wonder, “What do you possibly do so early?” Well, you check the cows, pigs, horses, or whatever animal you raise. Most of the time, it is way better to start work in the mornings before it either gets too hot, or the wind begins to blow hard.
Some other jobs that can and are done include: fencing, equipment work, livestock loading, and feeding the animals.
During farming season, getting up earlier is better because this means you can get a head start on blowing, planting, or picking and then you can move on to another field and get done before dark.
Another thing thats good about working in the morning is that it’s the best part of the day: when the sun rises and shines off the dew, snow, or grass.
Something else that’s good about getting done early is that you have time to fiddle with things such as animals or equipment just for fun.
Now trust me, I’m not trying to sound like farm people do more than others, because there are other people who do just as much or more. But I am saying that there are few who rise earlier in the day than farm folks. And that’s okay with us.
